It's easy to forget that before the iconic RO was launched in 1972, AP had nearly 100 years of making important watches. The present Tradition Extra Thin is an elegant reinterpretation of some of Audemars Piguet's most iconic styles from the golden post-1918 age.

This watch has serious presence; its super-slim case (powered by the self-winding historic calibre 2120 at a mere 2.45mm) is balanced by a purposeful 43mm case in platinum, the noblest precious metal. The signature case bevels as found in abundance on the Royal Oak are present here too – the bezel has impressive facetted and curved edges that meet in razor-crisp brushed mitres.

The dial is restrained but clear, with rose gold applied Breguet numerals and cathederal-style hands just like the 1920s originals. 21 carat gold open-worked winding rotor visible through the sapphire case-back.

Exceptionally, the watch comes with its original certificate from London AD Marcus, dated January 2014, and its lined and fitted box. Slim alligator strap and solid platinum AP buckle. Two-year warranty.
