Cartier
Shutter Pocket Watch
"Guillotine" Yellow Gold
Sometime in 1922 Cartier imported this incredibly elegant 'guillotine' pocket watch to London, personalised with the initials "BW"... Pressing in a hidden button in the crown opens the shutters underneath the crystal to reveal an elegant guilloche dial underneath that snap shut smoothly as Madame Guillotine herself and is surrounded by the Ouroboros. Powered by a trusty EWC movement with deceptively simple (but beautifully made) shutter mechanism that even locks the window open when you are setting the time. The last piece of the puzzle in identifying the watches original recipient would be the mysterious engraving on the case back of an ivy leaf with the number 4 running through its centre vein... A beautiful, and important timepiece from the absolute golden age of Cartier.
