Solid rose gold movement with beautful hand-engine turned 22ct gold winding rotor and flawless Geneva finishing. Large dual-digit calendar display, state-of-wind (réserve de marche) and solid gold moon and stars set against a deep blue sky. The watch has all the aesthetic Journe hallmarks that make this brand so distinctive: mirror-finished steel frame around an offset pair of dials (screwed to the solid white gold plate); rope-knurl winding crown, and polished instrument-style hands. 

The movement in the Lune is the 'Octa calibre 1300.3', the original automatic by F. P. Journe, first made in 2001, and with only 2 technical tweaks in 20 years. This is a long-duration (120 hours/5 days) calibre that employs a metre-long mainspring to obtain the correct duration. Nothing about Journe's work is forced; each watch in his tiny annual production is always underpinned by his technical credibility. He insisted on using a traditional large balance in the Octa, storing high kinetic energy for timekeeping stability. This differs from most long-duration watches that 'fudge' the technical challenge of long duration by using very small balances.

The demand for Journe watches has been completely insatiable, with world record prices continuously surpassed at auction. They are thought to produce fewer than 1,000 watches a year, all hand-made under the governance of one of the finest horological minds of the past 100 years.
