Patek Philippe
Chronometro Gondolo
Rare Early Large Wristwatch
Only a handful of these early large-size Gondolo Chronometro wristwatches have surfaced for public sale. Christie's estimate it to be as few as 8 pieces, one of which has permanent residence in the Patek museum.
This example, manufactured in 1919 is historically interesting, as it is one of Patek's earliest wristwatches in such a large case. The silver 'indelible' dial with large, clear figures in fired vitreous enamel, is additionally marked with the signature of Chronometro Gondolo at 6. This jeweller-impresario along with his business partner Labouriau were the centre of all things new & desirable in those amazing post-war years; it is said that during their reign in Rio de Janeiro, they sold a third of all Patek's production!
This remarkable watch offers everything today that it did back in 1919: size, style and technology, all backed up by the greatest name in watchmaking, Patek Philippe. The hand-engraved serial numbers are crisp and sharp as are the hallmarks on the solid 18ct gold buckle; the whole watch is quite simply in astonishingly good condition.
A rare opportunity to own a wearable signature piece from Patek's early 20th-century production.
