Daytona Tropical Dial
6265 - Extremely Rare
Tropical dial Daytonas 6265's are amongst the world's most desirable Cosmographs; it's impossible to predict which dials will change colour and in what way. The famous "Patrizzi" Zenith Daytona dials are an example of this rare phenomenon, as is the 3 million CHF record-breaking tropical Omega Speedmaster that sold in Geneva last year.
The manual-wind Rolex Daytona with Valjoux movement (in this case cal. 727) has had over 30 years as the world's most collectible wristwatch. Prices have strengthened year-on-year since Rolex ceased production in favour of the Zenith-powered automatic model in 1988. The correct (24-P302) screw-down pushers of this ref. 6265 give it a visual heft not far off the current models, whilst rendering it waterproof for everyday use. With 'Rolex London' service signatures inside the caseback, the watch is in exceptional condition, retaining its thick case shoulders an indication of how sparingly the watch has been worn.
Rolex Daytonas in this condition, with the exceptional rarity of a tropical dial, have begun to enter the price realms of the Paul Newman, and will soon become impossible to obtain as collectors hoard them.
