Cosmograph Daytona "Paul Newman"
Extremely Rare
Simply the most important wristwatch of the past hundred years. The Rolex Daytona 'Paul Newman' has done more to engender interest and trust in wristwatch value than any other creation by the Swiss industry. When Paul Newman's personal version of this watch was sold for a staggering USD 17.5 million, it surpassed even Geneva's greatest historic pieces like Patek Philippe's Henry Graves Supercomplication. Not only is the Paul Newman a solid asset in its own right, it's also brimming with technical and aesthetic features to intrigue and captivate the collector.
The dial has a myriad microscopic typographic details that set it apart from the classical Daytona model. The printing on this example is clean and fresh, whilst exhibiting a gentle patina on the original tritium hands and luminous markers (including the correctly-distressed marker at three, where slight vibrations from countless manual-windings have caused it alone to flake slightly).
Screw-down pushers and black polymer bezel insert make this watch appear heftier than its 37.5mm. Cream dial (called 'Panna' by Italian collectors due to its rich creamy appearance); collectors also call this model with black sub-dials 'Panda'.
Exceptionally, this piece is supplied with its original bracelet, Rolex 'cigarette box' and certificate. A once-in-a-decade opportunity to own an important and complete Paul Newman.
