Explorer Vintage
1016 - Single Owner
This Rolex Explorer 1016 is fresh to the market; we bought it from its first owner. The case in wonderfully original condition, including the remnants of the original gilt sticker on the case-back, bearing the model number 1016. We have left the case and bracelet exactly as found.
The matt dial, with its famous 3-6-9 configuration is in perfect condition. The unaltered tritium lume and matching hands now look arguably even better than when they were new, with their warm, rich butterscotch appeal. Chronometer movement with "hacking" stop-seconds feature.
The bracelet is tight and solid, with its date code (VC) placing it in 1978, squarely in the same year of production as the watch. The Rolex box is clean and bright and is itself a rarity.
The Rolex Explorer has been a giant among watches ever since its inception, having become famous for its ascent of Everest. It is the only watch other than the Daytona to have had a waiting list and price premium, thanks to demand from the original wristwatch collecting communities in Japan & Italy.
A 45-year old icon that's enjoyed careful attention by one owner, and looks great on and off the wrist.
