Rolex
Oyster Perpetual "Bombay"
6090 - 18ct Rose Gold
An evolution of one of Rolex's most important models; the Bubbleback, (their first waterproof automatic wristwatch). Produced in the late 1940s and 50s, the reference 6090 is affectionally known by collectors as the Bombé, French for 'domed', due to the shape of its sculptured lugs.
Made in 1952, this 34mm vintage gentlemans automatic rose gold Oyster Perpetual "Bombé" is exceptionally rare for two reasons. Firstly it is crafted in 18ct rose gold, a material seldom seen in this reference (most of the entire '6090' production from the late 1940s & 50's is in yellow gold), additionally, it also features an extremely rare black honeycomb dial.
To find a 70 year old self-winding Rolex with its original (unrestored) dial is one thing, however when that dial is black honeycomb, then its rarity and importance are enhanced considerably, and I doubt we will ever see another...
