Rolex
Submariner "Azure"
1680 - Rare Early Gold Model
One of the earliest gold Submariners ever produced, and one of the only examples available in the world fitted to its original sold gold Oyster fliplock bracelet.
This magnificent solid 18ct gold Rolex Submariner ref. 1680/8 has a serial number (21xxxx) that places it in 1969, the first year of production. The inside of the case-back has a matching engraving – this duplication of serial numbers (to avoid backs being inadvertently swapped during service) is known to have been done on important models with low production numbers.
The watch has British import marks, bearing the London Assay Office 'Leo' and lower-case 't'. These are present inside the case-back and on the clasp. Rolex therefore brought it into the UK in 1974.
The vivid blue dial of this iconic Submariner has resolutely resisted fading in spite of spending all its life with its first owner in Monaco. Metres-first "nipple" dial with tritium luminous and matching hands. Domed case-back of the early type, with a plethora of Rolex London service marks (not all visible in the photos).
This is a rare opportunity to own a lightly worn example of what must be one of the most impressive gold Rolex watches of the mid-20th century. Supplied with a service record from Rolex in Monaco, and our two-year warranty.
