Rolex
Submariner Date 'Red Writing'
'MK IV Dial'
Creamy patina & ruby red writing is certainly enough to wet the appetite; finding them in an attractive Submariner ref. 1680 is even better, as vintage remains a strong choice for collectors.
This 1973 (3.6m serial) 1680 with 'top-hat' Plexiglas was the first Submariner to feature a date, an important milestone for professional Rolex tool watches. The MK IV dial ('ft' first, with distinctive open 6's & red over white print) has aged beautifully, giving a warm, uniform patina to the hour markers, matching all three hands & the lume pearl at 12. Powered by Rolex's self-winding calibre 1570, upgraded to hacking seconds for precision setting, waterproof to 200m & fitted to the heavier '93150' Oyster Fliplock bracelet.
Guaranteed for two years, and presented with its vintage Rolex 'wedge' box.
