Submariner Gilt 'PCG'
'Exclamation Point Dial'
Finding a vintage Submariner that has it all, can become a life long obsession, so what makes this extraordinarily rare 5512 from 1962 quite so special?
Firstly, it has an extremely attractive gilt 'exclamation point' dial (notice the '!' marker at 6) with closed chapter ring, original (never-replaced) creamy tritium hands & matching hour markers, and the typical 'hand drag' you look for on an unrestored dial. All characteristics the most sought-after gilt 'PCG's should have.
It also features the original domed Plexiglas crystal, and a beautifully aged fat font bezel insert. This 'Cornino' was the first reference to introduce crown guards - the 'PCG', found in the first few years of production, is Rolex experimenting on shape, before settling on the standard rounded guards. Overall, this Sub 5512 is in beautiful condition, without restoration, exactly as it should be.
