Breguet
Classique Power Reserve
Roth-Designed Complication
This mid 80's "3-digit" Breguet Classique Power Reserve is the product of years of study by Daniel Roth, one of the 20th century's most influential craft watchmakers. Early in his career, Roth made a detailed study of an early Breguet pocket watch (no. 5 of 1794). He adapted it for the wrist, a challenging task given the reduction in scale and proportion.
This 36mm Classique was introduced all the way back in 1983, in the heart of the post-quartz havoc. What wonderful foresight from Breguet's then-owners the Chaumet brothers, their director François Bodet, and the visionary young Daniel Roth. Roth was determined to stay faithful to Breguet's original aesthetic and technical roots, something that has lasted to this day, although arguably none of the current range is as elegant and restrained as these grassroots early models.
Hand-engine–turned dial with integral Clous de Paris/Hobnail field, punctuated with different wave patterns for subtle contrast of the various indications. The heat-blued carbon steel hour and minute hands are of Breguet's own pommes pattern, complemented by slender indicators for the date and power reserve. The solid gold case back is of the early pre engraved type, and the watch is sold with its 1980's box and swing tag.
