As interest in vintage Rolex grows world-wide, serious collectors are focussing more and more on the beautiful gilt dials of Rolex's early era of sports watches. Really superb, original examples like this this 34mm 1966 automatic Explorer ref. 5500 are hard to find, with most having had their dials replaced or relumed at service over the last 55-60 years. This example still sports its original, unrestored, beautiful deep black glossy dial with lume that has aged to a rich cream colour over the years, highlighted by the hand made saffiano leather strap.
