Vacheron Constantin
Triple Calendar Gold
4240 - Vintage Complication
This superb triple-calendar masterpiece has just returned from a full restoration by the Vacheron Constantin heritage department, and we love how they have retained the character this watch had when first made in 1947.
Such a watch will have only been available to the extremely wealthy so soon after the war, notwithstanding the tiny output of Geneva's oldest maker. Even 20 years later, nearby Patek Philippe was producing only 34 watches a day in total. Do not underestimate the absolute rarity of a post-war Vacheron Constantin Complication.
The movement is a top-grade triple-calendar Vacheron calibre 485/a. This was crafted from the time-only Jaeger leCoultre base calibre 449 (recorded as Vacheron cal. 455 in the accompanying archive certificate).
Vacheron Constantin elected to re-introduce this important model Vacheron Constantin in 2017 as the modern interpretation Historiques Triple Calendrier 1942.
This watch has heft despite its vintage proportions, and the gold case is in excellent crisp condition. The dial is vivid in its vintage tonality, contrasting well with the polished applied gold indices, whilst the calendar functions are easily readable thanks to the aperture-style dial.
An exceptional watch which rarely appears in such superb condition; this is the only 4240 we have ever chosen to buy in 25 years. Two-year manufacturer's warranty.
