Breitling
Chrono-Matic
48mm Vintage Automatic
Introduced in 1969 as arguably the first self-winding chronograph, the Breitling Chrono-Matic and its peers by Hamilton and Heuer took the world of horology by storm, and gave it a much-needed boost before the imminent quartz crisis. The serial number places this watch around 1969, sporting the higher-beat Calibre 12 movement. The stainless steel case, in phenomenal condition, is the product of Ervin "Super-Compressor" Piquerez, the unassailed master of water-resistant cases with internal rotating bezels. His Swiss patent application number, 11525/67, can be seen on the case-back, along with the watch serial and model numbers. Gilt self-winding movement in excellent cosmetic and mechanical order, stout early bracelet signed Breitling, and dashing day-glo hands and slide-rule detaling make this a watch that at once rare & collectible, and (vital for every watch connoisseur), fun!
