Breitling
Navitimer 806 – Unpolished
Rare All-Black Dial
An absolutely superb find, this 1960 all-black vintage Breitling Navitimer 806 with very rare dial is unpolished and in nearly perfect condition.
The applied golden "AOPA" wings are surmounted by a beautifully crafted cursive Breitling "B" logo and the words "Breitling Geneve" in silver ink. This dial configuration is rare, having only been produced between 1956 and 1960, with most known examples appearing late in that period.
For those in the know, Breitling initially produced the Navitimer to the specification of the US Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, a private flying club. Their logo is the gilt wings with shield and the earliest examples do not have Breitling's name on the dial. The watch became a smash hit, resulting in Breitling having to scramble to produce "public" models that included their name.
Notice the creamy-silver slide-rule, the early beaded bezel with 93 individual boules, and absolutely flawless gloss black dial. Original luminous markers and "syringe" hands. The warm tone is of the lume is enhanced by a modern terra-cotta lizard-pattern strap in the style of the originals.
As though providence had not been generous enough already, the watch also has an immaculate rose-gold plated Venus 178 movement, and the original fitted velvet-lined presentation box. All-black Navitimers are now exceptionally rare in good condition; this one with rare dial is a must-have. Two-year Watch Club warranty.
